The Importance of a Mentor
For every goal or dream that you have had, you can trace it back to someone that has paved the way for you or has helped you achieve it . Whatever your goal is on life, your mentor is usually the one who gets you started. When learning from a mentor, you are usually learning from someone who has already arrived at where you want to be in life. Therefore it is necessary to take the steps to model them and become better. This person has already take the necessary steps and sacrifices it took to get to where you want to be.
Mentor: Giles Davis
Giles Davis, since being hired at UIndy in 1997, has helped the Greyhound track program etch numerous achievements at the conference and national levels. Davis is responsible for the training and development of the short sprints, long sprints and middle distance events through the 800-meter run.
He is also charged with handling meet management including the Indiana Intercollegiate and GLVC Championships as well as maintaining the conference performance list. The versatile Davis also is the recruiting coordinator for both the men's and women’s program.
Giles Davis will serve as my mentor and I will act as a volunteer graduate assistant for the 2015-2016 indoor and outdoor track season. I am excited about this opportunity because I have a lot of respect for this man and all that he has done for the men's and women's program.
